White Wine - Most Common Types

White wine is really golden in color. There are a number of white wines which have luscious flavors. This makes them perfect companions for soft cheeses, white sauced pasta, fish and poultry.

The most common types of white wine are:

Chardonnay - This wine is made from grapes of the same name and originated in France. It has a fruity flavor and looks elegant in a glass due to its deep yellow color.

Sauvignon Blanc - The flavor of this wine ranges from grassy to sweet tropical. It should be served slightly chilled with fish or cheese. It also pairs well with sushi. The French wine can be aged up to 15 years while the wine of New Zealand is consumed young.

Chenin Blanc - Produced in the Loire Valley of France, this wine has a fruity and sweet flavor.

Gewurztraminer - The grapes are grown in many countries and is also known as Traminer. The wine has hints of spice and floral flavor.

Pinot Gris - This wine has hints of apricot and the grapes are grown in several countries.

Riesling - Originating in the Rhine region of Germany, this wine has a honey flavor. The grapes are grown in several countries.
